MOTHERS DAY NECKLACE

PEARLY MUM NECKLACE

By Linda Jones (www.wirejewellery.co.uk)

Materials:  String of natural chip M.O.P. shell beads, 0.8mm silver-plated wire

Tools:  Round and chain nosed pliers, wire cutters.
(materials can be found here)

1. Thread one of the M.O.P. chips onto the end of a spool of 0.8mm silver-plated wire.  Place the tips of your round nosed pliers about ½” (1.5cm) from the end and curl the wire around one of the circular shafts to create a complete circle.

2. Push the M.O.P. bead up to the wire circle and place the tips of your round nosed pliers near the bead, bringing the wire around the shaft to create a second circular link.  Roll the link around the pliers so that it sits next to the side of the bead.

3. Using the widest part of your round nosed pliers, create loops with the ends of the wire on each side of the bead.

4. Depending on the overall length of the necklace, continue threading the remaining shell bead chips in this way – I used 17 beads to create a standard 16” beaded chain.

5. Use ready made jump rings (or, create your own) to connect the beads together in continuous chain length.  Add a lobster clasp or, handmade fishhook clasp at the end.
